I adore this time of the year: flowers, sunshine, birds a’ frolicking (and squirrels too!), puffy clouds in blue skies, visits by wild turkeys in my neck of the woods… But most of all I adore this time of year because it’s hunting season – for egg shards, of course! Do you notice those discarded bits of treasure? I avidly hunt and collect them because they’re so precious and delicate, and such a great reminder of spring and rebirth and life. And they come in the BEST variety of soft creamy blues around.
So far this year I’m having great luck but as usual I find them most often when I’m open to but not actively looking. Last night as I started up my gravel driveway I saw a round white item reflected in my headlights, right in the middle of the driveway, and my brain yelled “stop and look, just in case!” Yup, it was a large, almost intact blue egg (I was seeing it from the open end and the broken-off top was sitting inside. Talented birds!) I found another this morning at the end of the driveway. And one yesterday near the library. And two in different places in my parking lot at work. I figure once the little ones hatch, mom and dad throw out the trash — one bird’s trash is this human’s treasure!
I’ll do a full collection picture of all of them soon, but for now here is this morning’s find. Best of luck finding egg shards yourself, should you be so inclined, and please share pictures!
(p.s. I don’t recommend leaving them in reach of your dog. Mine eats every one she can get her greedy little lips on.)
I LOVE collecting eggs! And feathers and fallen nests. I have quite a few bird skeletons as well (I hope that doesn’t sound too weird)
That blue is the most gorgeous colour. We once kept Araucana chickens as they lay pale teal blue eggs.
I have a deep forest green emu egg that is bigger than my hand and I keep it snuginside a little parrot’s nest.
Beautiful images!
Cheers,
Cindy
how beautiful! my walks often take much longer than they should because i am always “hunting” for things. 🙂
Mine too! And I have to remind myself sometimes to watch where I’m walking and enjoy the clouds in the sky, too. = )
