Ta-da! I’m so excited to show you my very own, super-duper, Cabinet of Curiosities. I’ve always wanted one of these, full of bits and bobs, odds and ends, little worlds of wonder (I’m getting there!). This is the initial start, housing the natural goodies I’ve gathered and acquired over the years along with some of my little books, a real crocodile clutch that was my grandmother’s, and eventually some of the rocks Matt has collected and whatever strikes my fancy or seems to need a home here. I’m pretty sure I have a couple small boxes tucked away that are full of feathers, leaves, egg shards and the like, so they’ll need a home too. The bottom shelf currently holds our fossils but I need to work on that area a bit.
We found this cabinet at auction a month or so ago and it’s in great shape. The shelf pins are imprinted with GDR, which points me at German made, but I haven’t found any other markings or labels. It also seems to be missing a top piece but I’m not sure what that could have been – this bugger is top heavy as it is, and you can’t open both doors at once or you risk toppling it (hence the heave fossils on the bottom!) so hopefully it was just a decorative piece.
Anyway, here you be. I adore the carved detail at center. And the beveled glass doors.

Do you have a Curiosity Cabinet? If so, please share!
i don’t but think this is a great idea! my mom used to have a rock garden when i was growing up – she would keep all her natural finds there among some desert-y plants.
Oh you have everything displayed so beautifully!!
Oh, thank you! It’s a much enjoyed work in progress. = )
