Good afternoon! If we had met for coffee today you would have seen me sipping my water from a straw. It was in a coffee cup, sure, but 1) coffee didn’t sound good this morning and 2) coffee didn’t sound good sipped through a straw. Why a straw? Well, you see, I woke up Sunday morning with a crick in my neck and tilting my head back to drink from a cup still wasn’t pleasant this morning. I get these cricks occasionally, especially when the weather has been particularly cold for a while like it’s been in my neck of the woods – days spent hunched in my skin, trying to stay warm when my office doesn’t hit 70 even with the heater on all day, the temps outside don’t break 40, and we don’t want to pay astronomical heating bills so we keep the house pretty cool often equals the old tense-shoulders-crick-in-the-upper-back syndrome. This time though what started out as a painful knot in my neck and some limits to mobility when moving my head around became can’t-move-my-head-and-hurts-to-swallow by Monday morning. I’m pretty sure I did myself a great disservice by hot-packing it for a while Sunday afternoon but it felt so good. Then sleep was virtually impossible Sunday night.
I found a very nice local chiropractor in my insurance pool and she squeezed me in yesterday morning. Then caused me to curse and cry with a couple of adjustments (wow, the pain was intense!!), told me to ICE PACK on a regular schedule all day, and I’ll go back on Wednesday for another adjustment. By last night I was feeling closer to normal, actually slept pretty well, and had time to ice pack this morning before heading to work. Today I’m so much better, with more motion in my neck, that excruciating knot is gone and it’s getting easier to swallow.
Phew! I wouldn’t wish this on anyone!
This has been a total “crick” in my holiday plans too. We were Christmas tree hunting Sunday, which wasn’t all that fun in pain, then all I’ve done since is lay on the couch. Blah. Makes crafting, shopping, and basically enjoying life a pain in the neck. Te-he-he.
Tonight we need to get our tree up in the garage to air out for a night or so before decorating later this week. And I need to catch up on chores and crafts after a couple days of down-and-out. Wish me luck!
