Wow, time is flying these days. We were just on a little vacation last week to sunny Hawaii (I’m not calling it a babymoon, we had it planned before we knew about the pregnancy, but the timing couldn’t have been better!) and here it’s practically mid-April already. Taxes, anyone? Sorry… that was mean.
Last year we had a lovely trip to Maui but this year we joined friends on The Big Island, which was fun, but we both liked our place at Maui better. We had an ocean view at this condo, though no beach, but in Maui we could walk a hundred feet to the beach for sun and fabulous snorkeling to our heart’s content. Pure bliss. I know, it’s pathetic to complain about a trip to Hawaii so I’ll stop and share pictures instead:
We were at the Royal Sea Cliff condos, a couple miles south of Kailua Kona – nice place. Our room had an ocean view and a rocky shoreline to watch the waves. And two pools if that’s your thing (gimme warmish salt water and a snorkel, please!). The complex also had a lovely tropical forest down the center, complete with a waterfall and meandering stream, jurassic ferns, and pretty flowers.
We spent one day traveling to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and checking out the lunar landscape, trekking through the lava field that covered the road to Kalapana, admiring the smoking craters and vents (see first photo, above), and wishing the active lava flows were closer than a 6-hour hike across the moon. Ah, well, we did stick around the see the lava glow at night – pretty spectacular for a glowing spot in the distance.
We napped, we read (Hunger Games was on the table when we got there and I couldn’t put it down, then I ebooked the other two – I really enjoyed them, but wouldn’t let my young teenager read them!), we chatted and ate, we drove and snorkeled (some spots were waaay better than others, but I gathered the best shells at the worst spot – win win!). Our weather was generally a little hazy but warm and sunny for sure, then hit 82 with humidity by 10:30 the morning we left – this pregnant lady was glad to get out of there!
So, that was my recent adventure. Now to buckle down and get the Nursdio in order…
