So, are you pro or con the Dragonfruit? Have you tried it? Did you like it? What did you do with it???
I’ve heard of it before but never tried it, so when I saw a pile of these beautiful, intriguing rosy red and green spiky specimens at the store I grabbed one. For $2.99 no less. I have a hard time buying a pineapple for that! Anyway, had to try it.
I read up online how to get into the thing (cut in half, scoop out flesh, discard peel – it’s toxic), set it aside for later in the week, then happened to be in the same store when a produce-guy was passing out samples and… hmmm. Underwhelming. Maybe his wasn’t quite ripe and mine will be?
So I cut mine open to find this gorgeous white seed-speckled interior, sliced off a piece and… still underwhelming. They have very little flavor (a little cucumber-y, a little bland-jicama-y but softer), the texture of a melon with the added crunch of seeds, and…am I missing something here?
Do you like dragonfruit? Do you cook with it? Use it in smoothies? Bueller??
The last thing I’m trying to do is dissuade anyone from trying dragonfruit for themselves, but if you had a different experience (or have a passionate love for the Dragonfruit) please share!
