No, not me (though once upon a time I thought that was a *good* idea…) – it’s our first Fawn Sighting of 2012 – hooray!
Aren’t they just too sweet to believe? The first fawn sighting each year doesn’t get old, especially the first time they wander through the yard on Sunday morning – bliss!! We had 3 or 4 pregnant does this year so hopefully they’ll all bring they’re little ones around eventually.
This picture above is Momma, one of the first deer and the first momma-deer to hang around when we moved into the house in fall 2008. That year she had twins, Sarah and Nubbins, and Sarah still hangs around and has her babies with us. We’ve seen Sarah recently but not her fawn from this year yet – can’t wait!! Nubbins is still probably hanging around, too – we have a pack of guys who come in right near dusk to feed but unless you carefully document the antler patterns of the boys at some point it’s hard to tell them apart.
In 2009 Momma had just one fawn, Piebald (for the big white patches on her flanks):
Then twins again in 2010 (shown here at a couple months old):
Last year she had twins as well but we didn’t get a picture. We did however get a picture of this adorable little cutie from another doe:
They make my heart melt, they truly do.
