I remember when Ritz crackers came in a wax-papery sleeve. Graham crackers did too, back when they were graham crackers and not the sad imitations we get now.
I remember that KitKats came in a waxy wrapper too, am I remembering that correctly? I DO know that Hershey bars were wrapped in foil and then a paper sleeve… not plastic. I loved those paper sleeves, even made a bookmark out of one once.
I remember when Hostess fruit pies had a little white cardboard tray in the (waxy) package. For some reason I miss those little trays.
I remember when a quart of ice cream was actually a quart.
I remember why there’s a reason it’s called Classic Coke.
Apparently I like junk food.
But I also remember when toilet paper rolls were 1/4 inch taller, and that wasn’t very long ago.
I remember going to the movies with a friend and seeing a double feature of 2nd or 3rd runs for $3.
I remember when binder clips were coolly-mysterious little things – what did grownups do with them, anyway?
I remember filling my ’69 AMC Concord’s 26-odd gallon tank with gas and bemoaning the fact gas was 99 cents a gallon. 99 cents!!
I remember when the Dime Toss booth at the State Fair had pretty cool stuff you could win – glasses, bowls, vases – and that we scored practically a case of plastic tumblers one year because the dimes didn’t bounce out of those so good aim was a winner every time.
I remember the smell of a brand new pink pearl eraser and the shine it put on a new school year.
I remember telling a fellow classmate in the 7th grade “I could be President someday if I want to” and thinking now “why would I want to?”
I remember my first crush, my first kiss, my first heartbreak and the moment I realized my current husband just might be The One.
What do you remember from your days of yore?
