Hi, and welcome to Curly Girl Press! I’m a native Oregonian living in the Portland area, trying to keep my creative side alive around the demands of work and home. If I could just give up TV I might get more done, but I have to relax sometime, right?
Curly Girl Press is a blog dedicated to creativity in all its forms. I draw, paint, assemble, print, bind, sew, dance, cook, perform, photograph, doodle, list, fiddle, futz, and generally seek to create something on a daily basis. Let me tell you, some days are better than others. I’m trying to make this creativity a bigger part of my life by putting it out there in the great Internets, whether anyone finds it or not.
I graduated from Portland State University with a BS degree in Fine Arts (I love that – “BS” in Fine Arts). I didn’t choose this degree out of an overwhelming desire to become a world-famous artist, renowned in the high-brow galleries and salons of the world, but because I love to be creative. I love to take classes and talk about art and see what my fellow students are up to, what inspires them and how our work and interests are so very different. I confess I loved critiques, even that last year when a question from my teacher reduced me to tears. It wasn’t her, it was me! And my work was more focused and definitely more interesting after that.
So here I am, rambling my way through this blog and figuring out how to keep the creativity alive. Please bear with me and if you choose to leave a critique, at the very least make it constructive.
My name is Jamie – why don’t you say hi? Curlygirlpress(at)hotmail(dot)com.
Hi! I’m sorry it took me so very long to comment on your blog. I have been reading it though, and i really like it. You are so much better at sounding coherent than i am. Also you have fewer (less?) spelling errors. Lol
I love the Portland area so much! I haven’t been there recently but i’ve heard there’s this enormous bookstore in Portland called Powell’s that takes up like an entire blog, which has literally made it a Mecca for me.
Keep on blogging and thanks for all the help.
No worries, and thank you for reading! My first drafts are rarely coherent or without spelling errors – always edit! And yes, Powell’s is a Mecca for the book lover, especially those like me who love to find used bargains in really good shape. But alas, Powell’s is far away from me now so I don’t make the time to visit as often as I used to. You can shop online though, can’t beat that.
Hi, Jamie! What a nice site you have here…and I love your tagline!
Thanks so much! I’m a paper hoarder – just love the stuff. = )
I hoard it, too, and reuse and recycle! (But I don’t make very pretty things from it. 😉 )
Hi Jamie,
Cute kid !!! You guys did a great job. Talk about being creative.
I’m really glad to read that you have kept your interest in crafts and art…
and TV too, I guess. I often think of you when I see a mosquito hawk crafted or drawn. Take care.
Hey Uncle Dale! Yup, the best creativity I’ve ever had, with help of course. He is an absolute sweetie. = )
Hi Jamie. I really like the blog you’ve created…fun to read! I look forward to reading more…had to follow!!
Cheers!
Hi Andrea, thanks for stopping by and following! I have to tell you, your Hunny cat looks so much like a cat I had several years ago it’s eerie. I love that dark tortoise coloring. = )
